Quick, send us a fire extinguisher, because we are on FIRE!!!

As you may have guessed, with absolutely no guile on my side, I had a pretty good week this week. Palermo is just on fire. In fact, just the other day there was literally a fire here. Someone had thought it would be funny to light some dumpster on fire. (We are in the middle of a garbage strike, so the garbage is just piling up in the streets). It is always pretty cool to know stuff like that happens in my city. I love Palermo haha.

Since last wednesday, we have been doing alot of different Scambios, and it has been a ton of fun. We have been doing some way good work too. Last friday, I was doing a scambio with Anziano Weeks. He is in my group, and is actually the first one from my group that I have actually gotten to live with and second to serve around. We had a lesson with a girl named Letizia. It went very well. She is the girlfriend of a member named Giuseppe. They are attending university here in Palermo, so we are taking the opportunty to teach her. We taught her the Word of Wisdom, and she objected about Caffee, but in the end she agreed to quit haha. She is very intelligent. She asked us questions about the Book of Mormon, such as who the gentiles are, how to use the BofM and the Bible together, if the Catholic church was the great and abominable church. She asks good questions. She is gonna be baptised.

And then, the next day, we had finished our scambio so I was back together with my normal companion, Anziano Larsen. He is in his 8th transfer. We had a lesson with a family of ex investigators called the Lucas family. They are a way cool family. They are a mom, 2 sons of 22 and 9 years, and a daughter of 16. They had been dropped about a year ago because they werent keeping committments. Anyways, we went over to their house, and started talking to them all. It was good to get to know them, expecially because they still loved the missionaries. About half way through the conversation, the mom's friend walked in, and they all start talking to us. (They are all south american by the way). They were all way interested in what we had to say, and then, at the end of the lesson, the friend asked us when she could see us again. We set up an appointment for this friday. It was great, especially because we walked away with 4 more people to teach!

On Sunday we ended up doing Mostra again, but it rained so it wasnt quite that effective. But it was fun, especially since we had some members there helping us out.

We had another Scambio yesterday, and I went with my fellow zone leader Anziano Flitton. He is a way good missionary. We had a lesson in the morning with a man that is CRAZY paranoid. He thinks the CIA is after him, and the people take his picture and give it to the mafia, and that everyone is against him. He is a member, but went crazy a few years ago. He wants to just move to Arizona and live in the middle of nowhere to get way haha. He was a big downer. And then we planned out Zone Leader training together.

And then, today, we have just been doing a bunch of Pday things. For example, we went to a nearby city called Monreale, and the cathedrale there has the most gold of any cathedrale in all of Italy. It has 900,000 square meters of gold leafing. It is incredible.

Anyways, till next week, ci vediamo!
Vi voglio bene!

Sweet and Sour

Ciao a tutti!

I dont have much time today, I spent the day going and seeing a city called Agrigento and all the greek temples there, and then seeing something called the Stairs of the Turks or something like that. So because of that, I am going to give you kinda a "copy and paste" from my president's letter.

We had some ups and downs this week. First thing was that our main, progressing investigator named Gino decided to take a trip to America for a couple of weeks, and he sprung that on us few days before he had actually left. He should be back in about 2 1/2 weeks, but till then that kinda put us in an interesting situation. Since then, we have really been trying to find new investigators. This last week we saw some success with it, but not enough. We are going to be trying even harder to get more people to teach because, unfortunately, the ones we found can really only see us maybe once or twice a week.

I know it is kinda silly, but when I found out today that someone had shot and killed my dog, I felt really grateful for the Plan of Salvation. It was a shocking thing that happened, and I know that the Plan of Salvation was designed for the salvation and exaltation of man, but I got a little hope in knowing that I will be able to see my dog again too. He was good dog.

We are still teaching our new convert Gaetano how to read so he can read Book of Mormon by him self. He is progressing very well, and learning at a rapid pace. Our other less-active lady named S.lla Gennaro is still smoking, and we havent seen any progress in getting her to stop either. Hopefully we will see a breakthrough soon or we will just start doing something else.

I realised alot this week that if I want more work here, it is going to take more work. I want to leave Palermo better than when I found it, and I feel that Anziano Larsen and I can do it.

I will send photos next week!
Vi voglio bene!

The groundhog saw his shadow.

Heya Everybody!

This email is going to be fairly short! I am a busy man.

I had a killer week. It was alot of fun with my new companion, Anziano Larsen. He is awesome. He talks to everyone, and we have alot of fun together. I enjoy my new appartment alot. I am also living with Anziano Weeks now. He started the mission with me, and this is the first time that I have lived with someone of my own group.

We found a new investigator named Rosa this week. She should be very promising. Her brother is an ex investigator who was always drunk, so the missionaries had dropped him. Now he has moved away for work, we are able to start teaching her.

On Sunday we did Mostra again, and it was alot of fun. Unfortunately, the evangelists came back, so we had to send them packing. I dont mind them at all, but when they come up to us with the purpose of bashing us, it really doesnt make me that happy, so we said CIAO, and they left. Punks....

Today I am going to a lighthouse for P-day, so it is gonna be awesome. Last week was really interesting. My companion had to get on a bus wednesday night instead of Thursday, so I got tossed around between a couple of different companionships in Palermo. I went to go see the Cathedrale of Palermo which was very impressive.

Gino is doing well. He still loves the lessons that we are giving him, and little by little he is making progress. It is really cool watching someone start from Zero, literally zero, so I enjoy it alot.

The weather here has been nuts. It cant make up its mind. One day it is hot, the next day it is freezing. Make up your mind sky! Geez...

Anyways, Things are good here in Sicilia! Till next week!
Vi voglio bene,
Anziano Parry

Transfer Calls Strike Once Again

Guess what!! As I am sure you know from the title of the email, Transfer Calls came and went, and many unusual things have been learned! First this first, I am staying in Sicilia for the 10th transfer here. I am the reigning king of Sicilia. I should make myself a crown or something. And even better, I am staying here in Palermo again! Yeah! I am way excited about that. But the bad news is that I am getting a new companion... Anziano Embree is getting transfered to Statte, a little hole in the ground in main land Italia. And when I say a little whole in the ground, I mean it is TINY. I am very happy about the fact that I am staying here in Palermo. The good news is that my new companion is Anziano Larsen! He has already been here in Palermo before, so he is going to be able to help me out. He is going into his 8th transfer, and I am going into my 15th.

Things this last week were kinda slow, and in fact I dont have much time to go into detail on the little things that happened. We have been doing alot of advertising for our GANS (young adults) center and english course, and we have already been seeing some success. And I learned how to make a bunch of different foods this week, all different types of sea food. It was a fun week, even if it was kinda slow.

Anyways, I guess that is all for now, ttyl!
Vi voglio bene,
Anziano Parry

P.S. The pictures are of 1) a tree covered in spines. The nature here is kinda hostile sometimes. 2) a lunch with my companion and I and the North companionship, 3) and of my and my companion making food.
